Vijayendra Kumeria has never been someone who sticks to one kind of character. From romantic leads to emotionally layered roles, the actor has experimented with different parts over the years. His latest outing as police officer Sanyam in Juhi Mui , opposite Eisha Singh , is another addition to that list. The performance has already caught viewers' attention, and the actor says choosing the right role has always been more important to him than simply staying busy.
Ask Vijayendra what decides whether he signs a project, and his answer is surprisingly straightforward. He doesn't follow complicated formulas or trends. Instead, he first looks at the role itself.
"The role should be different from what I have done before. If I feel I'm repeating myself, I don't enjoy it as an actor. I always look for a character that gives me something new to explore. It should be substantial enough to make an impact on the story and not just exist for the sake of it. Of course, I also expect the project to pay me well because this is my profession too. These are the things I always consider before saying yes to any show," Vijayendra said.
For the actor, every project should offer a fresh challenge. He believes audiences also expect actors to surprise them from time to time, and that becomes difficult if the same kind of characters are accepted repeatedly.
Looking back, Vijayendra feels his instinct has rarely let him down. Rather than chasing every opportunity that came his way, he preferred waiting for roles that matched what he wanted to do.
Continuing the conversation, he said, "Fortunately, I have landed up in good shows and my evaluation has worked for me. When I look back at my career, I feel the choices I've made have helped me grow as an actor. Every role has taught me something different, and that's why I still trust my own judgment while selecting new projects."
Vijayendra feels that while success can never be guaranteed in the entertainment industry, actors can at least control the choices they make. He never takes the first offer that comes his way when it’s time to choose a role. It’s about finding a character that feels new, that has emotional weight in the story and is worth investing months of hard work into.
As Juhi Mui continues its run, viewers are watching Vijayendra in yet another new avatar, something he has consciously tried to maintain throughout his career.
