Liverpool are still trying to sign Paris Saint-Germain forward Bradley Barcola, but any deal is expected to 'take time'.

The 23-year-old is at the top of the Reds’ transfer wish list this summer as they look to add more quality out wide after the departure of Mo Salah.

Barcola is said to be eager to join Liverpool after becoming unhappy with his limited playing time at PSG, but there is still a major obstacle to clear before the transfer can go through.

Barcola has had strong competition for minutes in Luis Enrique’s star-packed attack, and he started only 21 of PSG’s 34 Ligue 1 matches last season as they claimed their fifth straight title.

He has also had to compete with 21-year-old Desire Doue for both club and country, which meant he started only four of France’s eight World Cup 2026 matches and completed the full 90 minutes just once in the tournament.

That is why the former Lyon player is looking for a fresh challenge after three years at PSG, but the transfer could still involve a British-record fee, going past the £125m Liverpool paid Newcastle United for Alexander Isak last summer.

The Champions League holders are reportedly valuing Barcola at €170m (£145m), but transfer expert Fabrizio Romano believes the Reds may be able to land him for less, saying: “Liverpool are working on a deal for Bradley Barcola, but don’t expect a breakthrough within the next few hours. It’s going to take time for negotiations and discussions.

“I can confirm and explain today: Barcola is very open to and keen on Liverpool. He is attracted by the project. He believes Liverpool would be the perfect option for his future.

“Barcola can’t control anything regarding club-to-club negotiations, and obviously PSG would want a significant fee. I don’t think it’s going to be €170m; I think it will be for less than that.

“Liverpool are in contact, so we’ll have to wait and see what happens.”

Barcola still has two years left on his PSG contract, so the European champions are under no pressure to sell, but a massive fee for an unhappy player would suit both sides.

It would also be a clear statement of intent from Liverpool, who have so far signed only Rennes centre-back Jeremy Jacquet and Spain winger Victor Munoz from Osasuna this summer.

The Reds have also been linked with Barcola’s France team-mate Maghnes Akliouche, the Monaco winger who is wanted by PSG, and Brazil attacker Rayan, who played under new Liverpool boss Andoni Iraola at Bournemouth last season.
