In Shajapur, Madhya Pradesh, a dispute arose between a couple just a few days after their marriage, which took the entire matter to the police. A 32-year-old man has raised questions about his wife’s gender identity and has accused her maternal side of allegedly hiding important information before marriage. On the complaint of the youth, the police have registered a case against five members of the wife’s family.
However, the most important thing in this case is that the claim of the wife being transgender is currently only the allegation of the complainant. The police have not yet confirmed this and have said that the actual situation will become clear only after the medical examination. The police is investigating the entire matter.
According to the complaint, the youth works as a vegetable seller in Shajapur. Her family had received information about the girl from Pachor in Rajgarh district through a person living in the neighbourhood. The family wanted the marriage to take place next year, but the young man alleges that the girl’s family insisted on an early marriage.
After this, on June 29, both of them got married in the temple as per Hindu customs. The youth’s family told the police that around Rs 5 lakh was spent on the marriage, while around Rs 1 lakh in cash was given to the girl’s family.
The young man told in his complaint that on the day of the wedding night, citing periods, he refused to have sex. The next day he was reported to have stomach ache. Even after this marital relations could not be established. According to the complaint, on July 2 the wife went to her maternal home. She returned to her in-laws’ house again after about three weeks on 23 July. During this time, the suspicion that was already there in the family’s mind started becoming deeper.
In the complaint given to the police, the young man claimed that after his wife returned to her in-laws’ house, a female member of the family saw him shaving. Apart from this, the family also became suspicious about things like having hair on the body. After this, the young man and his family questioned his wife about her gender identity. The family alleges that no information was given to them in this regard before the marriage.
According to the complainant, on July 24, he informed his wife’s maternal family about the matter and asked them to take her back. After this his relatives reached Shajapur. The young man alleges that instead of resolving the matter during the conversation, the dispute escalated. He has accused his wife’s family members of allegedly assaulting and abusing his family members.
In this case, Shajapur Kotwali police has registered a case against five members of the wife’s family on the basis of the complaint on July 25. Allegations to fraud, assault and money have also been made in the complaint. However, the police have clarified that the allegations regarding the gender identity of the wife have not been confirmed yet. According to Kotwali police station in-charge Santosh Baghela, such a claim can be confirmed only after medical examination.
Police say that if the allegations are found true during the investigation and it is confirmed that deliberately hiding important information before the marriage, further action can be taken in the case under sections to fraud. At present the police is investigating all the allegations made in the complaint.
