ICC Rankings: Indian team captain Shubhman Gill Has once again achieved the distinction of becoming the world’s number-1 ODI batsman. At the same time, young batsman Vaibhav Suryavanshi, who caught everyone’s attention with his explosive performance on the Zimbabwe tour, created a new record by making a historic jump of 230 places in the T20 international rankings.
In the recently played ODI series against England, Shubman Gill’s bat spoke loudly. He scored 80 (retired hurt), 31 and 77 in three matches. Although India lost the series 2–1, Gill’s consistent batting took him back to the top of the ICC ODI rankings.
Gill achieved the number-1 position, leaving behind Darryl Mitchell of New Zealand. Mitchell could not play the last ODI match against West Indies due to hip injury, which benefited the Indian captain. This is the third time in Shubman Gill’s career that he has reached the top of the ICC rankings for ODI batsmen. Gill became the number-1 batsman for the first time on 8 November 2023, while for the second time in February 2025.
Vaibhav Suryavanshi, who became the new star of Indian cricket at the age of just 15, also created history in the ICC rankings. In the T20 series against Zimbabwe, he scored 151 runs in three innings. In the first match, he scored a half-century on only 19 balls, while in the third match, he played a brilliant inning of 81 runs on 49 balls. For this performance he was chosen ‘Player of the Series’. He got the reward for this performance in the ICC rankings, where he jumped 230 places to reach 48th position. Such a big jump is considered very special for any young player.
India’s T20 captain Shreyas Iyer has also moved up seven places to 24th position in the rankings. Vice-captain Tilak Verma moved up two places to sixth position.

India has also received good news in bowling rankings. Leg spinner Ravi Bishnoi, who played all three matches on the Zimbabwe tour, jumped 31 places on the basis of his excellent performance and has now reached 41st position. Zimbabwean fast bowler Blessing Muzarabani also performed brilliantly and moved up 10 places to 26th position in the bowlers’ rankings.
The biggest achievement from India’s point of view was that Indian players registered their strong presence in both ODI and T20 formats. Shubman Gill becoming number-1 and Vaibhav Suryavanshi’s record jump are indications that the future of Indian cricket is looking very bright.
