CG Semi Sanand: Almost every Indian has heard the name of Hercules Cycle. This famous brand started in the year 1949 with TI Cycles of India, a partnership between Chennai-based Murugappa Group and Britain's Tube Investments Company. In the year 1951, Shri Krishna Kumar Singh G Gohil, the last ruler of the then princely state of Bhavnagar and Governor of Madras State, inaugurated the company's 'TI Cycles A' factory. The production of Hercules cycles started from this factory, which later became a popular brand in the country.
Now this Murugappa Group is playing an important role in strengthening India's semiconductor mission. On 4 July 2026, Prime Minister Narendra Modi launched the commercial production of CG Semi in Sanand, Gujarat. CG Semi Private Limited, a subsidiary of CG Power and Industrial Solutions Limited, has set up an Outsourced Semiconductor Assembly and Test (OSAT) facility with an investment of approximately Rs 7600 crore.

CG Semi is a joint venture between India's CG Power, Japan's Renesas Electronics and Thailand's Star Microelectronics. CG Semi has the largest stake in this. Along with providing technical support, Renesas company will also buy chips made in Sanand. Now the needs of the country and abroad will be met by producing chips on a large scale here.

The company plans to hand over most of the machine operations on the plant floor to women to promote women empowerment. At present, women employees from many states including Gujarat are working here and in future too, women will handle a major part of the machine operation.
To give the female employees practical experience of modern semiconductor technology, the company sent them to Malaysia for three months of training. After completing the training they are now able to operate the machines independently.
