In this month, Lord Shiva accepted Mother Parvati as his wife. Apart from this, Lord Ram’s sons Luv and Kush were also born in this month.
This year Sawan will start from 30th July and end on 29th August. According to Hindi calendar, in this month the Moon is in Shravan Nakshatra, hence it is also called Shravan month. Many experts of Hindu religion believe that the person who offers water to Shivalinga with true devotion every day during this month, always has the blessings of Lord Shiva on him.

Hariyali Teej is celebrated on the day Lord Shiva accepted Mother Parvati.
Shiv ji became Neelkanth – The churning of the ocean took place in the month of Sawan itself. During that time, Lord Shiva drank the poison that came out of churning, so that the creatures of the universe could be protected. It was only after Lord Shiva drank poison that he came to be known as Neelkanth. To reduce the effects of poison, devotees perform Jalabhishek every day.
