Pooran Blitz Powers MI London to Seven-Wicket Win at the Kia Oval

Nicholas Pooran produced a stunning unbeaten 58 from 22 balls to guide MI London to a commanding seven-wicket victory over Sunrisers at the Kia Oval, with 16 balls remaining. Set a target of 144, MI London reached their mark in front of a crowd of 20,540, with Pooran's innings standing as the centrepiece of the chase alongside a composed half-century from captain Sam Curran.

A Difficult Start for the Chase

MI London's reply began under significant pressure. Brydon Carse, bowling with sustained aggression from the very first ball, removed Will Jacks in the sixth delivery of the innings for 2. Jacks attempted to work the ball to the leg side but was beaten by movement off the pitch, spooning a catch to Benny Howell at cover. Vince Falls; Pooran Takes Control

Vince's stay, however, ended in frustration in the 44th delivery of the chase when Nathan Ellis bowled him with a ball that nipped in sharply off a length and took out off stump. Pooran's arrival changed the complexion of the chase entirely. He attacked from the outset, targeting the slower bowlers in particular. Against Benny Howell, Pooran struck three boundaries in quick succession — four over fine leg, six over long on, and four off the pads — taking 14 from just three balls faced in that spell. Dan Lawrence's off-spin offered little respite either, with Pooran launching a six high over the boundary and also collecting a four through an improvised scoop.

Curran, meanwhile, continued to anchor the innings with growing authority. His six over straight midwicket off Abrar Ahmed in the 71st delivery of the chase signalled a shift in momentum, and two balls later he reached his half-century from 34 deliveries with a skewed boundary beyond point. It was, in the commentary's own assessment, a proper captain's knock.

The Partnership That Won the Match

The stand between Pooran and Curran was decisive. The pair put on 50 from just 23 deliveries, with Pooran reaching his own half-century off 19 balls — the fastest fifty recorded by this franchise across both this season and its previous incarnation as the Oval Invincibles. Back-to-back sixes off Abrar Ahmed in the 74th and 75th deliveries of the innings, one swept high over square leg and the other slapped over long on, moved the equation firmly in MI London's favour.

When the lights came on at the Kia Oval, the ball began to slide on more readily, and MI London took full advantage. Potts, recalled for his final five-ball allotment, conceded a full toss that Curran launched over wide long on for six, reducing the requirement to 11 from 20 balls. The match was effectively over at that point.

Pooran sealed the win in the 84th delivery of the chase, launching a Potts delivery beyond mid off to complete a victory by seven wickets. He finished unbeaten on 58 from 22 balls, having come to the crease when MI London were 51 for 3 and needing 93 more. Curran ended unbeaten on 60 from 39 balls, his innings spanning boundaries through cover, square leg, and straight, and underpinning the entire second half of the chase.

Sunrisers' Bowling Review

For Sunrisers, Carse was the standout bowler, finishing with 2 for 18 from his full 20-ball allotment — an economy rate that represented the tightest spell of the evening. Ellis took 1 for 22 from 20 balls, the wicket of Vince his only reward for a disciplined if intermittently expensive spell. Potts (0 for 22 from 20), Howell (0 for 24 from 10), Abrar Ahmed (0 for 30 from 10), and Lawrence (0 for 13 from 5) all went wicketless as MI London's fourth-wicket pair negated whatever advantage Sunrisers had accumulated through their early bowling effort.
