Eli Junior Kroupi is reportedly on Arsenal’s transfer radar, but Mikael Silvestre has explained why the Gunners would be a “different fish” for his fellow Frenchman if the Bournemouth forward were to complete a big-money switch. The gifted 20-year-old is regarded as one of the brightest young talents around, with further progress at domestic and international level expected in 2026-27.
Kroupi’s valuation has reportedly jumped from £10m to £85m.
Kroupi - the son of former Ivory Coast international Elie - made an outstanding impression at the Vitality Stadium after joining from Ligue 1 side Lorient in the summer of 2025 in a £10 million ($13m) move to England.
Bournemouth have received excellent value from that deal, with the striker scoring 13 Premier League goals in his debut season for the Cherries and helping the club secure historic qualification for European competition.
With Kroupi’s reputation continuing to grow, it has been claimed that he now carries a price tag of £85m ($114m). Any club willing to pay that amount would be investing in both proven current quality and significant future potential.
Arsenal are said to be weighing up whether those attributes would suit them at Emirates Stadium. Mikel Arteta is looking to strengthen the north London squad that won the Premier League title last season.
The Gunners have also been strongly linked with World Cup winner Julian Alvarez, who is still at Atletico Madrid and already has experience of English football from his Treble-winning spell at Manchester City.
He would command a nine-figure transfer fee, which could force Arsenal to consider other options. Kroupi is drawing plenty of attention, having scored both home and away against the Gunners in 2025-26.
Asked whether the youngster could be a smart signing for Arteta and whether a senior breakthrough with France could soon follow, former Arsenal and France defender Silvestre said: “I played with his dad, so I follow his son's footsteps. We were together at the academy in Rennes. Seeing his son doing what he does already at such a young age for Bournemouth, for the France U21s, it’s great.
“He needs to confirm at the highest level, with a lot more pressure. Bournemouth is a different fish than Arsenal. You have to make room to bring these players in.
“As a young player, if you want to break through the national team, if you're young or more experienced, you need to play week in, week out. You've got to be careful with his next move. Definitely an impressive season so far.”
Arsenal spent heavily on Swedish striker Viktor Gyokeres last summer, making him their new central forward. Major silverware was delivered, while they also came agonisingly close in another Champions League pursuit, but there are still questions around the No.9 role.
When asked if Kroupi, as a more mobile attacker, might actually be a better fit to lead the line for the Gunners, Silvestre added: “The Premier League is about different attributes. Sometimes you're going to need players who are physically stronger and be a focal point up front. Sometimes you're going to need players like this.
“In the squad, it's good to have variety for Mikel, especially because people were criticising that Arsenal is too predictable. We're having different types of strikers. If you have Gabriel Jesus, he's offering different things than Gyokeres.
“You need to balance your front four, front three, and make sure you have goals in every situation. Because you're going to defend against low block, you're going to have to use space sometimes. They have to look at the big picture when they make those signings.”
Kroupi signed a five-year contract when he joined Bournemouth, tying him to the club until 2030. Those terms mean the Cherries are under no immediate pressure to sell another prized asset.
Even so, tempting bids could arrive in the coming weeks, and Arsenal are not the only club reported to be interested in the lively forward, who could soon find himself shining alongside stars such as Kylian Mbappe and Michael Olise in a talent-packed France squad.
