In a significant operation, excise officials in Kochi and Alappuzha apprehended two individuals and seized a total of 94 grams of MDMA. This information was disclosed by the authorities on Friday. The arrested suspects have been identified as Mohammad Shafi from Alappuzha and Sarita.

The arrests followed a tip-off regarding the storage and sale of MDMA by the suspects, prompting the Ernakulam excise team to act on Thursday. Initially, they searched a hotel room in Kochi where Mohammad Shafi was staying, leading to the recovery of approximately 69 grams of MDMA, resulting in his detention.

During the interrogation, officials learned that Sarita was also residing in the hotel room with Shafi. Consequently, a search for her commenced, and she was subsequently arrested in Ernakulam. Based on information gathered during the investigation, the excise team also conducted a search at Sarita's residence in Alappuzha, where they discovered around 25 grams of MDMA.

According to the excise officials, the suspects had been transporting approximately 120 grams of MDMA from Bengaluru to sell it from rented rooms in Kochi. The team also confiscated potential cash earnings from the drug sales. The investigation is now focusing on identifying drug suppliers based in Bengaluru and other individuals connected to this network.

Additionally, authorities are exploring whether the suspects supplied MDMA to other individuals in Kochi and Alappuzha.
