Shravan is the auspicious month for worshipping Lord Shiva. Ashutosh Vandana is celebrated throughout the month. Devotees observe fasting and rituals separately on every Monday. Many go to temples and offer puja. Some pour milk on the Shivalinga at home. However, in today’s urban life, it is quite difficult to get pure cow’s milk. As a result, many people buy packaged milk and offer it to Lord Shiva. The question arises, how reasonable is it to pour processed milk on the Shivalinga in this way?
According to the scriptures, every item used in worship should be of sattvic quality. However, packaged milk in the market goes through various chemical processes, storage systems and preservatives. As a result, its natural purity and sattvic quality are largely destroyed. According to the scriptures, it is inappropriate to offer such processed items to the Shivalinga. Be it in the month of Shravan or at any other time, fresh, pure and raw milk of local cows is best for the abhishek of the gods and goddesses.
What to do if you don’t have cow’s milk?
What to do if it is absolutely impossible to get pure cow’s milk? According to scholars, in that case, packaged milk can be used by following some rules or precautions.
Among the gods and goddesses, Mahadev is the easiest to please. He is a gentle man, and is satisfied with just a little Ganga water. Therefore, it is better to worship with a pure mind rather than with artificial objects. The main key to Bholanath’s grace is the observance of rules and respect from the heart, rather than the grandeur of preaching.
