Weather Update August 2: Today, August 2, 2026, a large part of the country could experience heavy rainfall. According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), a warning has been issued for torrential rain and severe thunderstorms in 12 states within the next few hours. Wind speeds could reach up to 85 kilometers per hour during this period.
According to the Meteorological Department, from North India to East and South India, nature’s harsh side will be seen today. States where special precautions have been advised include Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Delhi, Rajasthan, Uttarakhand, Punjab, Haryana, Himachal Pradesh, Jammu and Kashmir, Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh, Jharkhand, and West Bengal. Several districts in these states are expected to experience heavy rain accompanied by thunderstorms and strong winds.
The weather in the national capital, Delhi, is expected to be quite harsh today, August 2nd. The Meteorological Department has issued an alert for moderate to heavy rain. Wind speeds in Delhi are expected to reach 60 to 70 kilometers per hour. Temperatures are expected to reach a maximum of 34 degrees Celsius and a minimum of 28 degrees Celsius.
In Uttar Pradesh, districts like Meerut, Agra, Mathura, Kanpur, and Ayodhya have been warned of heavy rain and thunderstorms, with winds expected to reach speeds of 70 to 75 kilometers per hour. A yellow alert has been issued for several districts in Bihar, including Patna, Gaya, and Bhagalpur, where winds are expected to blow at speeds of 65 to 70 kilometers per hour. Patna’s maximum temperature is expected to be 32 degrees Celsius today.
There is a threat of torrential rain in Uttarakhand and Himachal Pradesh today. Districts like Nainital, Chamoli and Bageshwar in Uttarakhand have been warned of storms with a speed of 50-60 kmph. Shimla and Kullu in Himachal Pradesh have also been warned of heavy rain and storms. In Jammu and Kashmir too, heavy rains have been predicted along with storms with a speed of 50-55 kmph. The maximum temperature in Jammu and Kashmir will be 28 degrees Celsius and the minimum temperature will be 20 degrees Celsius.
The Meteorological Department has warned of a moderate risk of flash flooding in the Gujarat region (Ahmedabad, Surat, Vadodara) and coastal Karnataka (Dakshina Kannada, Udupi) for the next 24 hours. Heavy rains are also likely in several districts of Kerala and Mahe, leading to waterlogging in low-lying areas.
