Griha Pravesh: Building one’s own home is almost everyone’s dream. After years of hard work and savings, when a new home is ready, the excitement of entering it for the first time is unparalleled. In the Sanatan tradition, performing the Griha Pravesh Puja before moving into a new home is considered especially important. It is believed that performing Griha Pravesh (house warming) rituals at an auspicious time brings happiness, peace, and prosperity to the home.
Vastu Shastra outlines many rules to house warming. One important rule is that the new home should not be left empty immediately after the house warming ceremony. Let’s explore the religious beliefs behind this and what precautions should be taken into account during house warming.
Griha Pravesh is not just a religious ritual, but also a symbol of positive beginnings in a new home. During this ceremony, Lord Ganesha, Goddess Lakshmi, and the household deities are worshipped. In addition, efforts are made to purify the home’s atmosphere through havan (fire sacrifice) and chanting of mantras.
According to religious beliefs, this puja brings positive energy into the home and removes negative influences. Therefore, it is considered auspicious to perform a Griha Pravesh ceremony before moving into a new home.
According to Vastu Shastra, the puja, havan, and chanting of mantras performed during housewarming ceremonies create positive energy in the home’s atmosphere. It is believed that if the house is closed and left immediately after the puja, the effect of this auspicious energy may diminish.
It is said that a house where people move in for the first time after the puja ceremony maintains a positive atmosphere for a long time. However, if the house remains vacant for several days, the auspiciousness is believed to diminish. Therefore, it is recommended to stay in the new home for at least the first night after the housewarming ceremony.
