These days, the incidence of heart- diseases is increasing rapidly. Due to increasing stress, irregular routine, increased consumption of junk food and lack of physical activity, heart problems are also being seen in the youth. However, adopting some simple but consistent habits in daily life can help keep the heart healthy. Proper diet, regular exercise, adequate sleep and periodic health check-ups also help reduce the risk of many serious diseases. Know what habits should be adopted to keep the heart healthy.

Prioritize a balanced diet

Diet is considered the most important factor in keeping the heart healthy. Fresh fruits, green leafy vegetables, whole grains, legumes, dry fruits and seeds should be included in the daily diet. Foods rich in omega-3 fatty acids, low-fat dairy products and the habit of drinking enough water are also beneficial. This improves the health of blood vessels and helps in keeping cholesterol under control.

Daily physical activity is necessary

Regular exercise is very important to keep your heart strong. At least 30 to 40 minutes of brisk walking, cycling, yoga, swimming or light exercise every day improves blood circulation. This helps in controlling weight and maintaining blood pressure and does not put extra strain on the heart.

Reduce stress and get enough sleep.

Constant mental stress and insufficient sleep can affect heart health. It is essential to get seven to eight hours of restful and deep sleep every day. Taking time for meditation, pranayama, yoga or a favorite hobby keeps the mind calm and reduces stress. If mental health is good, it also has a positive effect on the heart.

Stay away from bad habits.

Smoking, tobacco use, alcohol, excessive salt, sugar and frequent consumption of processed foods can be harmful to the heart. It is also important to get into the habit of getting up and walking every now and then instead of sitting in one place for long periods of time.

Have regular health checkups.

High blood pressure, diabetes and high cholesterol are considered to be the main causes of heart disease. Therefore, it is necessary to check blood pressure, blood sugar and lipid profile from time to time. If you experience chest pain, shortness of breath, irregular heartbeat or sudden fatigue, do not ignore it and consult a specialist immediately.
