
Sawan Somwar Vrat Rules: The first Monday fast of Sawan falls on August 3, 2026, and is considered extremely auspicious and special for devotees of Lord Shiva. Religious belief holds that worshipping Lord Shiva with proper rituals, performing Jalabhishek, and fasting on this day alleviates all suffering. It also brings happiness, prosperity, and positive energy into one’s life.
It is also very important to follow some special rules on the day of Sawan Monday. Let us know what should be done on Sawan Monday and what things should be avoided?
On the day of Sawan Monday, wake up before sunrise in the morning, take a bath and go to the Shiva temple and offer water, Ganga water, milk, Datura and fresh Belpatra on the Shivalinga.
Chant “Om Namah Shivaya” or Mahamrityunjaya Mantra in your mind throughout the day.
If you’re fasting, eat fruits, milk, makhana, and foods made with rock salt. If you’re not fasting, eat a completely sattvic diet.
Donating food, clothes or grains to needy people on this day is considered very auspicious.
The person observing the fast and other members of the household should also stay away from meat, alcohol, garlic, onion and highly spicy foods on this day.
According to the scriptures , Tulsi leaves, turmeric, Ketaki flowers, Kumkum, and vermilion are not offered to Lord Shiva . Also, do not pour water on the Shivalinga using a conch shell.
Don’t disrespect or insult anyone on this holy day. Refrain from lying, backbiting, or any kind of controversy.
Sleeping late in the morning on Sawan Monday is considered taboo. Forget laziness and wake up early to engage in worship.
Avoid using a copper vessel to offer milk to the Shivalinga. Use a brass, bronze, or silver vessel for milk.
