New Delhi: As the monsoon progresses, the weather in northwest India is set to change once again. According to the latest alert from the India Meteorological Department (IMD), a new and fresh Western Disturbance is set to become active from August 4, 2026.

Due to this seasonal change and active monsoon trough, there is a strong possibility of heavy rain and thundershowers continuing in Delhi-NCR, Uttar Pradesh, Haryana, Punjab, Rajasthan and hilly states (Uttarakhand and Himachal Pradesh) for the next 5 to 7 days.

State-wise weather forecast and IMD alert

1. Delhi-NCR:

Forecast: Rainfall activities will intensify in the capital Delhi and adjoining Noida, Ghaziabad, Gurugram and Faridabad from August 3 and 4.

Rainfall Intensity: Light to moderate rain/showers are expected between August 4 and 6. This will bring down temperatures and provide significant relief from the humid heat.

2. Uttar Pradesh:

West UP: Heavy rain alert has been issued in western Uttar Pradesh including Ghaziabad, Meerut, Bulandshahr, Saharanpur and Aligarh from August 4 to 7.

East UP: Thunderstorms, lightning and heavy rain are likely over Lucknow, Kanpur, Gorakhpur, Varanasi and Prayagraj from August 3 to 6.

3. Hill States (Uttarakhand and Himachal Pradesh):

Uttarakhand: Widespread rainfall with isolated heavy to very heavy falls has been warned for the entire next week (August 2 to 8) in various districts including Dehradun, Nainital, Uttarkashi and Chamoli.

Himachal Pradesh: Heavy rain is expected in Kullu, Manali, Shimla, and Mandi until August 7. The IMD has issued an alert regarding the risk of landslides in the hills and rising river levels.

4. Punjab, Haryana and Rajasthan:

Punjab & Haryana: Widespread rain and heavy rain with strong winds (30-40 km/hr) are likely to be recorded in some parts between 3rd to 6th August.

Rajasthan: Rainfall will continue over East Rajasthan for the next 6-7 days, while scattered rain is likely over parts of West Rajasthan.

Main warnings and suggestions from the Meteorological Department

Lightning and Thunderstorms: Several states have been warned of winds with speeds of 30-50 km/h and lightning during the rains.

Kanwariyas and pilgrims, please note: Shiv devotees travelling during the month of Sawan and tourists heading towards the mountains have been advised to take safe routes keeping in mind the weather conditions.

Waterlogging in low-lying areas: Waterlogging and traffic jams are likely to occur in low-lying areas of cities, for which the local administration has been instructed to remain alert.
