Additional Chief Judicial Magistrate Ashwini Panwar delivered the verdict, bringing an end to proceedings in the case against the former BJP MP and his co-accused.
The court had reserved its order on July 2 after hearing the final arguments in the matter filed by six women wrestlers. The judgment was pronounced on August 3.
According to the allegations, the incidents of sexual harassment took place between 2016 and 2019 at the WFI office, Singh's official residence and during overseas trips.
Following complaints lodged by the wrestlers, the Delhi Police registered a first information report (FIR). On June 15, 2023, the police filed a chargesheet under Sections 354, 354A, 354D and 506(1) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC), which deal with allegations including outraging a woman's modesty, making sexually coloured remarks, stalking and criminal intimidation.
Separately, a minor wrestler had also accused Singh of misconduct under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act. However, the complainant later withdrew the allegations, following which the Delhi Police submitted a cancellation report. The case was subsequently closed. On May 10, 2024, the trial court framed charges against Singh under Sections 354 and 354A of the IPC in connection with the complaints made by five wrestlers, ruling that there was enough evidence to continue with the trial.
The court had also framed charges under Section 506(1) of the IPC in relation to allegations of criminal intimidation involving two complainants.
