In a candid interview with PEOPLE, Baldwin expressed that he never aimed to emulate blockbuster icons like Tom Cruise, stating, "I didn’t want to be Tom Cruise, and have to make $100 million at the box office. I’d rather be a schmuck from Massapequa!" This perspective highlights his preference for genuine experiences over commercial success.

Although Baldwin faced both triumphs and setbacks in his acting career, his decision to leave Hollywood stemmed from a significant personal evolution that began in 2001 when he embraced born-again Christianity. This transformation was influenced by the birth of his daughter, Alaia, and a Brazilian woman named Augusta, who was brought in to assist the family.
