Thiruvananthapuram. Continuous heavy rain and floods have severely affected normal life in Kerala. So far, 15 people have died in rain- incidents in the state, while 7 people are reported missing . In view of the situation, relief and rescue operations have been intensified in many districts. The Chief Minister has given instructions to provide relief amount to the affected families and assess the losses of the farmers. According to the state government, teams of NDRF, ITBP and other security forces have been deployed in the flood and landslide affected areas. Additional relief forces and helicopters will also be made available if required.

Which districts had the most deaths?

The Chief Minister stated that Malappuram district has suffered the most fatalities, with four deaths. Additionally, three deaths have been reported in Kottayam , two in Ernakulam , two in Kollam , and one each in Kannur, Kozhikode, Idukki, and Muvattupuzha . Search operations are underway to locate the missing.

More than 11,000 people in 316 relief camps

316 relief camps are being operated across the state for those displaced by the rain and floods . 11,018 people have been accommodated in these camps. The administration is providing food, medicine, and other essential supplies to the affected areas.

Heavy losses to farmers

According to preliminary reports, 165 hectares of agricultural land have been affected, impacting 3,596 farmers . The Chief Minister has directed the Agriculture Department to prepare a compensation proposal after assessing the damage.

NDRF, ITBP and Army teams deployed

NDRF teams are engaged in relief and rescue operations in Pathanamthitta, Kottayam, and other vulnerable districts. Two teams are already deployed in Kottayam, while additional teams have been called in from Arakkonam. ITBP and Defense Security Corps personnel are also prepared to be deployed if needed . Helicopters are also on standby for relief operations.

IMD issues alert, fishermen advised not to venture into the sea

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast heavy rainfall and strong winds of up to 40 to 50 km per hour in the state in the coming days. Fishermen have been advised not to venture into the sea near the Kerala, Karnataka, and Lakshadweep coasts . A warning has also been issued for high waves and rough weather.
