Genesis appears to be preparing to unveil its new flagship SUV, the GV90. And according to a fresh report by British publication CAR, which cited one of the Korean carmaker’s executives, the debut of this large crossover is now very close.

Peter Kronschnabl, managing director of Genesis Europe, told CAR that the new GV90 will be revealed in August, which in automotive industry terms appears to hint at a launch timed around Monterey Car Week. He also said the production-spec GV90 will come with reverse-opening rear doors, now more formally described as “coach doors”.

“The only other brand with coach doors is Rolls-Royce,” Kronschnabl said. “It will be a real [unique selling proposition].”

The decision to give the flagship SUV coach doors comes from the Genesis Neolun Concept, shown above, which made its debut in 2024. That concept used reverse-opening doors and featured a purple cabin designed to feel like a living room. While the Neolun’s interior looks a bit futuristic, its exterior styling is what we would expect to heavily influence the production model.

Kronschnabl added that the GV90 “shows what the brand can do when it comes to luxury” and described it as “another dimension of premium.” Given that the GV90 is expected to sit at the same level as the flagship G90 sedan, Genesis is likely to bring everything it has — and then some — to this SUV.

Like the Neolun, the GV90 is expected to arrive as an EV, most likely using some technology shared with the Kia EV9 and Hyundai Ioniq 9. Introducing an internal combustion-engined version would almost certainly help sales in the U.S., but CAR’s report makes no mention of any such variant.

As for when it will actually hit the road, an earlier report from KBB suggested GV90 production would start in September at the Ulsan plant in South Korea. That same report, published at the beginning of July, said Genesis was carrying out final checks and preparations for the flagship SUV ahead of its debut.
