Fabrizio Romano has delivered his trademark ‘here we go’ confirmation for Trabzonspor’s move to sign Liverpool legend Mohamed Salah.

Liverpool announced in March that Salah would leave Anfield after the club allowed him to end his spell one year early in order to take up a new challenge elsewhere.

Over the past couple of years, there had been strong speculation that Saudi Arabia would be his most likely destination, with reports suggesting massive offers had been put on the table.

A move to the Saudi Pro League or Major League Soccer had been viewed as the leading options this summer, but Turkish journalist Yagiz Safuncuoglu claimed last month that Salah had an ‘agreement’ with Besiktas.

Safuncuoglu reported: ‘Besiktas made the first offer to Salah. Salah, who initially demanded an annual salary of 15 million euros, lowered his salary expectations for the transfer to Besiktas. The player’s lawyer has arrived in Istanbul.’

He added: ‘Besiktas has reached an agreement with Mohamed Salah on financial terms. Negotiations are currently ongoing regarding the contract duration and image rights.’

That report prompted Turkish giants Besiktas to release a strongly worded statement denying that there was any ‘agreement’ with Salah, while also criticising Safuncuoglu for reporting the story in Turkey.

Besiktas said: ‘The content posted by Yagiz Safuncuoglu, a journalist, regarding the digital transfer process and transfer conditions discussed by our club is entirely fictional.

‘The individual has long been spreading reports fabricated at their desk, unrelated to the facts, regarding our club’s transfer procedures, and has been openly misleading the public.

‘As we have previously stated, the most accurate and transparent information regarding our team’s transfer procedures is shared with fans and the public through our official communication channels. We once again respectfully request that you do not trust any information or reports not announced through our official channels.’

Then, last week, it emerged that Super Lig side Trabzonspor had capitalised on Besiktas’ lack of progress as they moved close to ‘hijacking’ the deal, according to Foot Mercato journalist Santi Aouna.

Aouna said Trabzonspor were close to hijacking the Mohamed Salah move and nearing a full agreement with the player after entering advanced negotiations with his agent. He also stated that, as a result, Besiktas had officially suspended talks until further notice, despite already having a verbal agreement with the player’s camp over a 1+1-year contract worth €10M net per season plus €2M in bonuses.

Before that, Turkish journalist Safuncuoglu revealed that Trabzonspor had submitted an offer worth €17m per year over two years.

Safuncuoglu said Trabzonspor had met Mohamed Salah’s representative and submitted an official offer.

And now Italian transfer expert Romano has given his ‘here we go’ confirmation that Salah will join Turkish side Trabzonspor on a two-year contract.
