Manchester United forward Marcus Rashford’s future remains uncertain with less than a month left in the transfer window. The England international spent last season on loan at Barcelona and had been expected to remain at Camp Nou for the coming campaign as well.

However, the Catalan club decided not to activate their purchase option and instead moved for Anthony Gordon to bolster their frontline. That call has left Rashford’s situation up in the air, particularly as he remains under contract with the Red Devils until 2028.

The 28-year-old last featured for the Premier League giants in December 2024 before being sent out on loan to Aston Villa in January. United have since reinforced their attack with the arrivals of Benjamin Sesko, Bryan Mbeumo and Matheus Cunha, and they are still interested in moving Rashford on.

The Red Devils are trying to improve the squad this summer, and a sale involving the England forward could aid that effort. Even so, finding a solution for the player has not been straightforward.

Rashford was once viewed as an untouchable figure in United’s starting XI. A graduate of the club’s famed academy, the forward burst onto the scene under former manager Louis van Gaal and was widely tipped to become an Old Trafford great.

But his career took a more complicated path following a public falling-out with former head coach Ruben Amorim, which led to his temporary exit from the club. Now considered surplus to requirements at the Theatre of Dreams, the former academy product’s departure would count as pure profit on the club’s books.

That would provide a major lift in terms of meeting Financial Fair Play regulations. There has been interest from the Middle East, while Fenerbahce have also been named as a possible destination.

Still, no move has yet taken shape, and respected journalist Fabrizio Romano has now shared the latest on the situation.

Romano said that it is becoming increasingly possible that Rashford could remain at Old Trafford beyond this summer. He said: “Day by day, the feeling internally at Manchester United is that Marcus Rashford has increasing chances of staying at the club.”

“The expectation now is that, unless something crazy happens in the transfer market, Rashford could really stay at United and compete for a place. There are currently no concrete moves for his exit.”

Across his United career, Rashford has scored 138 goals in 426 appearances, winning the FA Cup, the EFL Cup and the Europa League.

United are looking for a new left-sided forward but have not yet brought in a player for that role. If Rashford does stay at Old Trafford, he could still be a useful option for Michael Carrick, particularly with a packed fixture schedule coming up next season.
