Active monsoon rains have affected normal life in several parts of the country. Incessant rains have led to flood-like conditions in several states and the water level in rivers is rising rapidly. Meanwhile, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued another severe weather warning for August 7.

According to the latest forecast of the India Meteorological Department (IMD), heavy to very heavy rainfall, strong winds and thunderstorms are likely in various parts of the country in the next 12 to 24 hours. The Meteorological Department has issued special warnings for 15 states including Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Jharkhand, Uttarakhand, Himachal Pradesh, Jammu and Kashmir, West Bengal, Odisha, Assam, Gujarat and Maharashtra.

According to experts, the monsoon activity has intensified due to the cyclone formed over the Bay of Bengal and North India. This may lead to sudden heavy rains, waterlogging, swelling of rivers and canals, and landslides in several regions.

According to the Meteorological Department, the impact of rains is likely to be felt most in North India, East India and the Northeast. Heavy rains accompanied by strong winds of 50 to 60 kmph are likely to occur in several districts of Uttar Pradesh, Bihar and Jharkhand.

Thunderstorms and strong winds have also been forecast for Delhi-NCR. There is a possibility of waterlogging and traffic disruption in some areas of the capital.

Heavy rains are likely to cause landslides and road blockages in the hilly areas of Uttarakhand, Himachal Pradesh and Jammu and Kashmir. The administration has been advised to remain alert in sensitive areas.

IMD has advised farmers to take necessary precautions in the field considering the weather conditions. In areas where heavy rains are likely, proper drainage arrangements are required to protect the crops.

People living in riverine areas and fishermen have also been advised to be extra vigilant. They have been advised to avoid unnecessary travel due to strong winds and adverse weather conditions in the sea and river areas.

There is a possibility of an increase in the incidence of thunderstorms, including lightning, in eastern India and the Gangetic plains. The Meteorological Department has urged people to stay away from open fields, tall trees and electricity poles.

According to experts, lightning is one of the biggest natural hazards during the monsoon season, and its damage can be largely prevented by taking precautions.

The national capital Delhi is likely to witness cloudy skies, thundershowers and winds gusting to 40-50 kmph on Thursday. The temperature is likely to be slightly lower than normal, giving people a chance to get relief from the heat.

Heavy rains are also likely in western and eastern parts of Uttar Pradesh. The Meteorological Department has advised caution in various cities including Meerut, Noida, Ghaziabad, Agra, Prayagraj, Varanasi and Gorakhpur.

There is a risk of landslides and road closures due to continuous rains in several districts of Uttarakhand and Himachal Pradesh. Travelers to hilly areas have been advised to travel only after checking the latest weather information.

Heavy rains are also forecast in several places in Jammu and Kashmir, causing local administrations to be on alert.
