Fermin Lopez made his much-awaited return in pre-season this summer after recovering from the fractured fifth metatarsal that ruled him out of the World Cup.

The midfielder played in Barcelona’s triangular tournament in Udine, where the Catalan side defeated Nottingham Forest before going down to hosts Udinese, and then addressed the media on several subjects.

Fermin on Araujo, Ferran and Rodri

Araujo is on course to join Liverpool.

Fermin admitted he was disappointed to see a team-mate and captain move on, but said he wished him the best.

“He has come to say goodbye. It’s a shame, because he’s a captain and I have a good relationship with him. He has decided to continue growing and hopefully he will return next season,” said Fermin.

Cautious on Ferran and Rodri

The Andalusian was also asked about Ferran Torres and possible new signing Rodri, but stressed that he did not know much about either situation.

On Ferran’s possible departure, Fermin said: “I don’t want to go into that, because I don’t have the necessary information. He is a good companion and a friend; I hope he decides what’s best for him.”

Fermin is preparing for a major season ahead.

He took a similar line when speaking about Rodri, who has reportedly chosen Barcelona after his MVP-winning World Cup.

“Rodri is a great player, but he is not at the club. Whatever Deco and the sporting management decide will be fine and, if it has to happen, it will happen,” he added.

Fermin on his fitness

Fermin, who won a decisive penalty against Nottingham Forest before being rested against Udinese, admitted he is still working his way back to full sharpness after a difficult summer.

“Good. I still have to get into the rhythm, but I felt good. I wanted to play. It’s been a very hard summer, but I’m already well and looking forward to this season,” he said.

Fermin is expected to have an important role for Barcelona next season as the club looks to replace the output of Robert Lewandowski and possibly Ferran Torres.
