Babar was made captain in place of Shaan
Babar Azam took over the Test captaincy of Pakistan in place of Shan Masood for the West Indies and England tours. In his first Test series as captain, Babar led Pakistan to victory in Port of Spain. With this victory, Pakistan also ended the series of losing eight consecutive tests abroad. At the same time, Pakistan had won its last Test series against England 2-1 at home in 2024. After the defeat in the first test, Pakistan made a brilliant comeback and won the next two matches.
Shan Masood’s fitness becomes a concern
The upcoming series against England is very important for Pakistan, because the team is eyeing the final of the 2027 World Test Championship. However, there is still a question about Shan Masood playing in the first test. He was injured during the first Test against West Indies last month and is not fully fit till now. In such a situation, the decision on his availability will be based on fitness. On the other hand, Babar Azam will have a big responsibility of batting along with captaincy.
