Before the new season gets underway, Borussia Dortmund's new away kit is already attracting huge attention. One detail, though, is splitting opinion among the fans.

Borussia Dortmund, in partnership with kit supplier Puma, has presented its new away strip for the 2026/27 season. After last season's controversial grey shirt, BVB has now gone back to a far more classic design. The new jersey is almost completely black and has been on sale since 11 August.

A day earlier, BVB had already hinted at the launch on Instagram. In short video clips, Julian Ryerson, Mussa Kaba and Carney Chukwuemeka were seen wearing the new shirt. The announcement clearly generated strong interest: even before sales officially opened at 9 a.m., a digital queue had already formed in the online shop shortly after 8 a.m.

The new away kit carries the slogan “Wherever we go” and is dedicated to the supporters who follow Borussia Dortmund to away matches. While unveiling it, the club said, “The volume and passion with which the black-and-yellow fans fill stadiums across Europe are part of an identity that extends far beyond Dortmund.”

Black is the main colour, while the BVB badge and the Puma logo stand out in bright yellow. The fabric also features a zigzag pattern. It is intended to symbolise movement and reflect the energy of the team and its travel-loving supporters.

Many fans are happy to see the return of a black away kit. The reaction to its predecessor had been very different: the grey jersey from the 2025/26 season was heavily criticised by sections of the fan base. During an away match in Heidenheim, supporters even called it “the ugliest kit in the league”.

There is still discussion around the new design, however. The red Vodafone lettering in particular has been criticised by some fans because it interrupts the otherwise consistent black-and-yellow look. Others view it as an effective contrast. The new shirt starts at 100 euros. The authentic version, which is also worn by the professional players, costs 150 euros, while the children's shirt is priced at 80 euros.
