Manchester United have repeatedly walked away from preferred transfer targets this summer whenever the asking price has been viewed as excessive.

But with fewer than two weeks left before the Premier League season begins, INEOS are in a difficult position after completing only two major signings so far.

They are now dealing with a similar issue in their search for a left-back.

It has been widely reported that Arsenal left-back Myles Lewis-Skelly has been offered to Manchester United, with Arsenal believed to be willing to sell their academy graduate following the signing of Bruno Guimarães.

According to The Sun, United are “planning a surprise bid” for Lewis-Skelly, although they feel his valuation is too steep.

Arsenal are said to be prepared to listen to offers in the region of £60 million for the technically accomplished youngster.

United’s first-choice option at left-back remains Lewis Hall, but they could “settle” for Lewis-Skelly as they continue to find it difficult to prise the Newcastle United player away.

The Red Devils are also looking to add a third midfielder, and Lewis-Skelly can also operate as a defensive midfielder.

Lewis-Skelly is available for transfer, but any attempt to sign the 19-year-old could reportedly be made more complicated because “a number of agents are attempting to help facilitate a deal.”

The Arsenal defender is represented by his mother, Marcia.

United are understood to have been monitoring Lewis-Skelly for several months, although Hall has been viewed as the more appealing target.

Given Arsenal’s valuation and the concerns surrounding the agents involved, United may continue to focus on their top target Hall, who is believed to be interested in a move to Old Trafford.
