The upcoming run of August signals Monterey Car Week, an annual pilgrimage for Bugatti owners that is increasingly being taken over by restomods. Air-cooled Porsche-based creations from firms such as Singer, Gunther Werks and RUF have long been part of the scene, but they are now being joined by machines with more unusual origins, including cars that were never especially known for refinement. One company, Eccentrica, has decided to work with what could be one of the least refined cars ever made: the Lamborghini Diablo.

Eccentrica revealed its fixed-roof V-12 in 2024, and for this year the company is introducing a version based on the Diablo Roadster. Appropriately named the V12 Roadster, Eccentrica says the model is a “comprehensive re-engineering” of an early Diablo, and that it features more than 3500 bespoke components developed specifically for the car.

Power comes from a modified 5.7-litre V-12 that produces 550 horsepower and 443 pound-feet of torque. It also gets revised thermal management and improved airflow efficiency, along with ECU changes intended to make throttle response sharper. The transmission remains a six-speed gated manual, and top speed stands at a strong 208 miles per hour even in Roadster form.

The most significant visual changes are on the exterior, where an entirely new steel and carbon-fibre body recalls the shape of the original car while allowing space for an even wider track. Beneath the body, the chassis is strengthened with carbon fibre, forming part of a broader package of performance and comfort enhancements that also includes semi-active dampers, hydraulic power steering and a modern braking setup.

Eccentrica will present the Roadster to the public at The Quail, a Motorsports Gathering, the Friday event that has grown into the biggest single day for new car debuts during Monterey Car Week. Only 19 roadsters will be built, and each one will be tailored to an individual customer’s specifications. The company has not announced pricing, but it is unlikely to come cheap.
