Celtic have officially completed the signing of Haissem Hassan from Spanish club Real Oviedo on a four-year contract. The Egypt international arrives in a transfer that could be worth as much as £9 million, depending on add-ons. Hassan joins the Scottish champions looking to add his pace and quality to their attacking options ahead of the new domestic and European campaigns.

Celtic have wrapped up the deal for Hassan on a four-year agreement, with the club also holding an option for a fifth year. According to Sky Sports, the two clubs settled on an initial fee of £6 million, which may rise to £9 million through a series of performance-related add-ons.

A sizeable part of those bonus clauses will come into effect if Celtic make it into the league phase of the Champions League later this month. Hassan arrives after an impressive World Cup campaign with Egypt, during which he played in a dramatic 3-2 defeat to Argentina. The winger is Celtic’s third signing of the summer transfer window, following the arrivals of Camilo Duran and Kasper Hogh.

After undergoing his medical in London, Hassan travelled to Lennoxtown to hold talks over the move. The winger spoke of his excitement at joining the Scottish champions after spending six years in Spain. “At 24, I think it’s a good moment for me to move away from Spain. I’ve been there for six years,” Hassan told CelticPlayer.

“With Celtic’s history, all the great players, the fans and the atmosphere, I think this is the perfect moment for me. I know I’m joining a big club, the biggest club in Scotland, and I’m really looking forward to taking the next step.” Hassan also said he wants to learn English and experience a different style of football.

The winger is aiming to excite the supporters and add a fresh dimension to the squad. Hassan explained his outlook on the game and what fans can expect from him on the pitch.

“For me, football is all about enjoyment, and my first job is to bring enjoyment to the fans who come to the stadium,” Hassan added. “From a football perspective, I would say I’m a skilful winger who likes one-versus-one situations and combining with my team-mates. I’m still only 24 and I have a lot to improve on, but I hope I can show the best of myself.” Hassan is seen as a specific addition for the right-wing role.

Focus now shifts to bringing Hassan into the squad ahead of a key run of fixtures. Celtic have until Thursday to register him so that he can be eligible for next week’s Champions League play-off against LASK Linz. On the domestic front, the club begin their title defence against Dundee this weekend, where Hassan will hope to make his debut and show his determination to win more trophies.
