Norway goalkeeper Orjan Nyland has said he is fully confident of claiming the starting place at RB Leipzig after an impressive World Cup campaign. The 35-year-old keeper has rejoined the Bundesliga club on a two-year contract after leaving Sevilla, returning to the Red Bull Arena for a second spell with big ambitions.

Nyland completes Leipzig return

The experienced goalkeeper has officially gone back to Leipzig on a two-year deal after his contract with Spanish club Sevilla expired. The Norway international arrives full of confidence after helping his country reach the World Cup quarter-finals. The move marks his second stint with the Bundesliga side, having earlier joined as an emergency signing during a goalkeeping injury crisis in the 2022-23 season.

Norwegian keeper embraces competition

The veteran shot-stopper’s strong performances on the international stage, including a penalty save against Brazil star Bruno Guimaraes in the round of 16 as well as 16 saves overall in the tournament, strengthen his case for a starting role.

Speaking in an interview, Nyland made it clear he is ready for the battle for minutes: "I know I'm going to get my playing time, so I'm not very worried about that. I demonstrated my level and my qualities in the World Cup. I think that spoke enough about me. That's why they signed me and that's why they want to use me as well."

He also looked back warmly on winning domestic silverware during his first spell at the Red Bull Arena: "It's something very positive that I still remember with pride."

Experienced keeper targets first-choice spot

Nyland’s arrival adds important experience to a Leipzig squad that will compete in the Bundesliga, Champions League and DFB-Pokal this season. The seasoned goalkeeper will be in direct competition with highly rated 24-year-old Belgian keeper Maarten Vandevoordt for the starting place. Leipzig begin their domestic season with an away match against Borussia Monchengladbach on August 29.
