Newcastle are rebuilding under their new manager, with another fresh arrival set to come through the door.

Newcastle United have agreed their next signing of the summer.

The Toon have endured a dramatic summer, with manager Eddie Howe leaving midway through pre-season, while Anthony Gordon, Bruno Guimaraes and Sandro Tonali have all been sold for substantial fees.

But it is veteran right-back Kieran Trippier who now appears to have finally been replaced by Newcastle’s latest move in the market, as new boss Matthias Jaissle looks to bring in an important player before the season gets under way.

FourFourTwo’s Joe Donnohue recently said he expected Newcastle to sign Amar Dedic, who made 52 appearances under Jaissle at Red Bull Salzburg.

“Given Newcastle's need to refresh their options at full-back after Kieran Trippier's exit and Tino Livramento's persistent injuries, Dedic could be an option given he already knows the manager's demands,” he wrote in a report.

Now, SportSport in Bosnia has reported that Dedic has “already agreed to the transfer”, with the Magpies only needing to settle terms with Benfica.

The report adds that Newcastle do not want to pay more than €30 million for the player, and that, “There will be no problems in the agreement, because the Portuguese giant are ready to sell”.

Dedic moved to Lisbon last year after a brief loan spell with Marseille, making 43 appearances in all competitions before starting this season with two outings for the Eagles.

Following the high-value sales of Guimaraes and Tonali, Newcastle have made a deliberate push towards a model focused on signing young talent they can develop, rather than going head-to-head for the biggest names.

Last year, the Toon were linked with players such as Hugo Ekitike, James Trafford, Benjamin Sesko and Joao Pedro, only for so-called Big Six clubs to beat them to each deal.

This summer, though, has brought a shift in strategy, with 20-year-olds Bazoumana Toure, Ewen Jaoen and Aladji Bamba arriving from Hoffenheim, Reims and Monaco respectively, while teenager Sean Steur – still only 18 – is expected to fill the significant gap left by the midfield departures.

Any move for Dedic would take the Magpies’ spending to around £170-180m.

The 23-year-old is valued at €20m, according to Transfermarkt. Newcastle’s Premier League season begins against Liverpool.
