The 33-year-old told HK01 that after paying for taxi rental and fuel, she takes home about HKD2,000 (US$256) a day. Pang said she is satisfied with the earnings, which are enough to cover her living expenses and have given her greater financial stability than acting.

Pang began driving a taxi part-time about two years ago as acting opportunities became increasingly scarce from 2024. When her contract with TVB ended in June this year, she decided to make taxi driving her main occupation.

The career shift came naturally, she said, as she has always enjoyed driving and found the work suited both her financial needs and personal interests.

Some passengers occasionally recognize her from television and strike up conversations. Pang said she responds warmly and thanks them for choosing her taxi.

Although taxi driving can involve long hours, she tries to avoid exhaustion by keeping a regular work-rest schedule. She typically works about 20 days each month and takes the remaining 10 days off.

Born in 1993, Pang entered show business after completing TVB’s acting training program. During a nine-year acting career, she appeared in around 50 productions, including “The Man Who Kills Troubles”, “Come Home Love: Lo and Behold”, “On-Lie Game”, “Legal Mavericks”, “Big White Duel II”, “Battle Of the Seven Sisters”, and “Line Walker: Bull Fight and Sinister Beings”.

Pang is not the only Hong Kong entertainer to have turned to other forms of work as acting opportunities have dwindled.

Last year, actor Fabian Chai revealed that he and his wife had opened a night-market stall selling chicken feet. As the business gradually gained traction, it helped improve the family’s financial situation.

Actress Kate Yeung has also worked as a university security guard, while actor Sunny Dai previously took a job waiting tables at a local restaurant.

After photos of Dai cleaning tables at the eatery circulated widely on social media, he addressed the attention on Weibo, saying there was nothing wrong with trying different kinds of work, according to Taiwan’s FTV.

“Life is unpredictable, so just try everything. Life is a notebook that is yours to write. It’s not like I’m stealing or robbing. What matters most is walking your own path in life,” he wrote.
