Coventry City have finalised the signing of Nigeria international striker Taiwo Awoniyi from Nottingham Forest in a deal reported to be worth £9 million.
The 29-year-old is the latest player brought in by Frank Lampard as the Sky Blues gear up for their first Premier League season in 25 years after winning the Championship title last term.
Awoniyi spent four years with Forest after joining from Union Berlin in 2022, and he scored 23 goals in 103 appearances for the club. His standout period came near the end of the 2022/23 campaign, when he found the net six times in Forest’s final four league matches to help the side preserve their top-flight status.
Last season, though, his chances were more restricted, with Awoniyi making just three starts across his 17 Premier League appearances and scoring four goals.
The physically strong centre-forward now gives Lampard another attacking option and is expected to spearhead Coventry’s front line this season.
Awoniyi is Coventry’s sixth signing of the summer and joins Gus Hamer, Carl Rushworth, Loum Tchaouna, Aurèle Amenda and Caleb Yirenkyi as part of the club’s build-up to their return to the top division.
