Marcus Rashford has rejoined Manchester United after an 18-month spell away and is not expected to request the No. 10 shirt. According to The Sun, he has taken that position out of respect for Matheus Cunha.
Instead, he is set to wear the now-available No. 14, the same number he used in Spain during his loan spell at Barcelona after a stint with Aston Villa.
Rashford made his first appearance for United since December 2024 in last Saturday’s 4-2 pre-season loss to AC Milan in Poland, coming on after 60 minutes. He wore the No. 9 shirt in that game, although it is not set to be his official squad number for the season.
Michael Carrick has confirmed that Rashford will be included in the first-team squad this season, but made it clear that he needs to restore trust with the coaching staff and supporters if he is to earn back a regular role. The forward has already won two FA Cups, two EFL Cups, the Europa League and the Community Shield during his time with United.
Wayne Rooney said: “It’s such a strange one with Marcus because we know he’s got the ability, he’s shown that.” Speaking on Stick to United, he added: “For me, has he got the hunger? Does he want to play for Man Utd? If he wants to play for Man Utd, the first thing he has to do… I’ve been there in 2010 when I asked to leave the football club, there’s a stage where you have to rebuild.”
Rashford comes back after an impressive year at Barcelona, where he registered 14 goals and 15 assists in 49 appearances and played a key role in the club winning La Liga. Manchester United begin their Premier League season away against Hull City on August 22.
