New Delhi: Rakshabandhan festival, symbolizing the unwavering affection and determination to protect brothers and sisters, will be celebrated with devotion and gaiety across the country on 28th August this year. It is often seen that when the Rakhi sent by a sister who lives far away does not reach on time or the sister is unable to come home due to some reason, then confusion arises as to whether the wife can tie that Rakhi on her husband's wrist. According to the scriptures and religious beliefs, doing so is considered completely inappropriate. Rakshabandhan will be celebrated on 28th August in 2026. Purnima Tithi starts on 27th August at 9:08 AM and will end on 28th August at 9:48 AM.

Adopt these options if sister's Rakhi does not arrive

If the Rakhi sent by the sister does not reach on time or he himself is unable to come, then on such occasions instead of getting the Rakhi tied by the wife, the husband himself can wear that Raksha Sutra on his wrist.
Rakhi can also be tied regularly to the daughters of uncles, aunts or aunts present in the family. With this, the religious resolution of Rakshabandhan is also fulfilled and the dignity of the relationship is also maintained.

Can a wife tie Rakhi to her husband?

According to Acharya Madan Mohan, an expert in religious matters, the sacred tradition of Rakshabandhan is purely linked to the sanctity of the relationship between sister and brother. Therefore, it is not considered scriptural for a wife to tie Rakhi or any kind of protective thread on her husband's wrist. Acharya believes that violating this rule can create tension and discord in the cordial relations of married life. However, scholars say that these beliefs should be seen only from the perspective of tradition and personal faith, but following the tradition correctly is beneficial.
