Juventus, Evra: "I felt they were going to rob us and deny us a blatant penalty"

The former Juventus defender has looked back on his spell in Turin.

Patrice Evra, the Frenchman born in 1981, played for Juventus from 2014 to 2017 and revisited his years in Turin during a YouTube podcast with Luca (jftvluca).

Among the most notable passages, as reported by Tuttosport, were his remarks on the Champions League final Juventus lost to Barcelona in 2015 and the club's Serie A title fightback in the 2015-16 season.

The final against Barcelona

"I do not like blaming referees, but I hated that Turkish referee. Some time before that, when I was at Manchester United against Real Madrid, he had already sent off Nani unfairly, one of the most scandalous decisions ever. The moment they told me who would referee the final in Berlin, I immediately felt we were going to be robbed. It was a clear penalty on Pogba. We lost to a great Barcelona side, but it was an absolutely obvious penalty. I hope that referee is in prison now."

The comeback of 2015-16

"I remember that after one defeat everyone was blaming Max Allegri, just as happened at Manchester after David Moyes left. I told Buffon that we needed to have a meeting. During that discussion, many were complaining about Allegri and missing Conte. I told them: 'I am ashamed of what we are doing, we are the ones responsible.' Then I gave an interview to Sky saying we did not deserve to wear that shirt, but that from that moment on we had the certainty that we would win every match. For me and for Allegri, it was one of the best Serie A titles. We did not lose a match - remember that unbeaten run, it was incredible. At that point I had the respect of the other players because they understood how much I loved Juventus.'"
