A UN-backed education agency announced a $22 million programme to support Sudanese children whose schooling has been disrupted by war.

Geneva [Switzerland], August 24: Sudan's civil war between the Sudanese Armed Forces (SAF) and the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF) since April 2023 has triggered forcible internal displacement of millions and widespread hunger.

The war in Sudan has entered its fourth year now, majorly affecting crucial aspects of civilian lives, including the education of nearly 2,00,000 children and teenagers, in regions across West Darfur, South Kordofan and Gedaref.

Displacement crisis deepens

Thousands of families fled to displacement camps in El Obeid, the capital of North Kordofan state in south-central Sudan, after the RSF attacked villages across southern and western parts of the region, Al Jazeera reported on August 21.
