Tottenham Hotspur have officially wrapped up the high-profile £85 million signing of Brazilian winger Savinho from Manchester City. Spurs had been monitoring the gifted forward for more than a year and have now landed their leading target to strengthen Roberto De Zerbi’s attacking options.

Tottenham have finalised the blockbuster arrival of Savinho from Premier League rivals Manchester City. The deal is reported to be worth as much as £85 million ($116 million). Spurs had been pushing hard to sign the talented Brazilian for over a year before eventually completing the move. The club first made their formal interest in the forward known last summer, and their patient work behind the scenes has now delivered the result they wanted.

The chance to work under De Zerbi turned out to be a key reason behind Savinho’s decision to move to north London. The lively winger is clearly keen to keep improving his all-round game under the highly rated coach.

"It’s taken a while but I’m very happy to be here," he said. "It’s a wonderful opportunity at a brilliant club with one of the best managers in the world.

"As soon as I spoke to the Head Coach I knew I had to come. He told me he wants to help me reach the highest level, and I believe we can do that together, as a team."

Tottenham sporting director Johan Lange spoke of his great satisfaction at finally securing a key long-term target. Lange believes the new signing is an ideal match for the club’s quickly developing football identity.

"Savio is someone who has been on our radar for a while and I’m delighted that he is now a Tottenham Hotspur player," Lange said. "He has already shown his quality at the highest level, and we believe his ability, style and mentality will be a great fit for the squad we are building here."

De Zerbi was just as positive about bringing the skilful, direct winger into his attacking unit. The head coach said: "Savio is a player who brings energy, imagination and quality in wide positions. He has the courage to attack defenders and the ability to change a game with his creativity."

Now that the transfer has been completed, Savinho is ready to start training with his new team-mates. Tottenham have confirmed that the Brazilian will wear the number 17 shirt this season.
