With their midfield rebuild now completed, Manchester United have turned their attention to finding a long-term successor to Luke Shaw.

Lewis Hall appears to be an unlikely option because of Newcastle United’s firm position, while Bournemouth’s Adrien Truffert is another Premier League-tested player under observation.

As a result, INEOS have had to broaden their search, and RB Leipzig left-back David Raum is among the players being considered.

The Germany international is under contract only until next season, which means he could be obtainable for a reduced transfer fee.

An earlier report had indicated that a move could be completed for less than £30 million.

When that is combined with his understanding on the pitch with Benjamin Sesko, as well as the possibility of Christopher Vivell backing a move for him, supporters have every reason to be encouraged.

The 28-year-old told journalist Philipp Hinze that there is interest in signing him, although no final decision has been made yet.

“I’m now heading into the final year of my contract,” the full-back said.

“I don’t need to lie about the fact that inquiries are coming in – that’s obviously to be expected. As things stand, I’m looking forward to the season with Leipzig.”

It remains unclear whether INEOS will press ahead with a move for the Germany international, but Manchester United do need a left-back, particularly if Harry Amass also leaves.

Alejandro Balde is another player on the Red Devils’ shortlist, but Barcelona’s current asking price is proving to be a major obstacle.
