‘King of Mandopop’ Jay Chou buys wife two houses for US$15-million

He paid entirely in cash without obtaining a bank mortgage, according to Money UDN.

The two properties, spanning a total of 990 square meters, are in a residential area in Taipei and have scenic views and premium amenities.

Sources said the singer had been planning the purchase since last year, finalizing the transaction just in time for Kun’s 33rd birthday on Aug. 12.

Chou has purchased at least 10 properties in Taipei’s most affluent neighborhoods, and become neighbors with billionaires since the 2000s, according to Next Apple.

The family’s current residence in Taipei’s Peace Palace cost over US$20 million. Beyond real estate, Chou is also a big spender on artworks and antiques. He has maintained his popularity and appeal across music and brand endorsements for over two decades.

Chou earned over US$307 million between 2017 and 2020, Fortune China reports. For the past 15 years, he has consistently ranked among the highest-earning celebrities in the Chinese showbiz.

Besides his vast catalog of hit songs, Chou is also a lyricist, plays multiple instruments, and acts. In films, he made his mark with works such as “Curse of the Golden Flower” and “King of Beggars”.

He married model Kun Ling in 2015 and has three children with her, and their love story is admired by many.

Chou dotes on his wife, encouraging her to freely pursue her passions, according to 163.com. He has showered her with both material gifts and romantic gestures, ranging from a US$10-million home to songs that he wrote and performed himself.
