Aston Villa have confirmed the arrival of midfielder Leon Goretzka on a free transfer.

The Germany international had been available as a free agent throughout the summer after his contract with Bayern Munich came to an end. Goretzka spent the previous eight seasons with the German powerhouse, where he won seven Bundesliga titles, three DFB-Pokal trophies and the Champions League.

The 31-year-old is now preparing for a fresh challenge after putting pen to paper with Unai Emery's side, although the club has not yet disclosed the terms of his contract.

Last season, Goretzka made 48 appearances across all competitions for Bayern, starting 27 matches, and contributed five goals along with five assists.
