Manchester United’s latest signing, Carlos Baleba, has been ruled out for up to three weeks with an ankle injury, head coach Michael Carrick said on Friday.

The Red Devils roped in the 22-year-old midfielder from Brighton and Hove Albion for reportedly close to 60 million pounds. He has signed a deal that keeps him at the club till 2031, with an option to extend for one more year.

However, he will have to wait to make his debut for the club, with Carrick informing reporters of his unavailability.

“He’s got a ⁠little ankle issue so maybe a couple of weeks or so, maybe three weeks. But ​we knew that before, ‌so it’s no major issue. It’ll be great to have him when we can,” Carrick said.

Asked whether Baleba could return before the international break, he added, “We’ll wait and see. We’re hopeful, but ​I don’t want to put any deadlines on it just yet.”

Carrick also informed that Mason Mount has returned to training, while Amad Diallo will be unavailable for United’s first home league game of the season, against Ipswich Town on Sunday. United will be looking to bounce back after a shock opening weekend defeat to promoted side Hull City.
