Clinton Morrison has spoken about Julian Alvarez’s future amid links with Arsenal, weighed up the possibility of Enzo Fernandez joining Manchester City, and explained why Ollie Watkins’ expected move to Al Hilal makes sense.

I’ll begin this week with the transfer speculation around Julian Alvarez, who is understood to have his heart set on a switch to Barcelona despite Arsenal’s interest. He would significantly improve Mikel Arteta’s side because he is an out-and-out goalscorer and a different type of player compared to Viktor Gyokeres and Kai Havertz.

He has pace, can trouble defenders, can drop into the hole, and can score all sorts of goals. I think Arsenal will win the Premier League, but if they add that kind of player, you would start to believe they could go on to dominate and win the Champions League as well.

It is clear that he wants to join Barcelona, but Atletico Madrid do not want to sell him to a rival. Even so, if Barcelona are prepared to pay the money, why would Atletico not sell when they have an unhappy player who has lost the backing of the fans?

Of course, he can still win the supporters back by staying and scoring plenty of goals for Atletico Madrid.

Another player who has been linked with a move away is Emiliano Martinez, who has reportedly been offered to Chelsea. He would improve them enormously, especially after Robert Sanchez’s display against Fulham last Monday.

He cannot be beaten by that Josh King strike. I do not like being too critical of players, but it is not the first mistake he has made.

Even with Fulham’s second goal, he has parried it back into the danger area. I do not like to be too critical, particularly as it was the first game of the season, but Chelsea clearly need to sign a goalkeeper.

I know they have Mike Penders from Strasbourg, but they need somebody with more experience, and Martinez certainly fits that profile.

One player who has already completed a big-money move is Ayyoub Bouaddi. He is someone with huge potential at just 18 years of age, and he is a top talent. We saw what he could do at the World Cup, but the Premier League is a completely different kind of test.

I like the way he receives the ball, and his confidence is something to admire. And everybody knows about Enzo Fernandez and the qualities he has.

He is going to be booed wherever he goes this season and will take plenty of stick. But he is a good player, and I do not think Chelsea want to lose him.

But it was interesting when Xabi Alonso said that he does not know what is going to happen and that he wished the transfer window was shut.

Normally, when a manager says, ‘No, my player is not for sale, he is not going anywhere,’ then you know that is the truth. But he did not say that about Enzo Fernandez. So personally, I think it will happen.

I think Manchester City will pay the money and sign Fernandez after already bringing in Bouaddi. I also hear they have agreed a fee to sign Brazilian winger Alan from Palmeiras, so it is clear City are not standing still after losing Rodri.

Elsewhere, Ollie Watkins’ move to Al Hilal is an interesting one. It would be a huge coup for the Saudi League and its clubs, because I cover a lot of the Saudi League and they are trying to sign many top players. And do you know why players are going there? Because the money looks after them and their families for years and years.

So I can probably understand why Watkins, who is 30 and nearly 31, might be thinking that he could spend a couple of years over there and secure his family’s future.

He would be playing alongside the likes of Karim Benzema and Ruben Neves, with Al Hilal putting together a side they believe can win the league, because Cristiano Ronaldo’s team, Al Nassr, won it last season. So it will be interesting, and it looks like a good move for Watkins.

Finally, there are some cracking Premier League matches to look forward to this weekend, and Aston Villa versus Arsenal on Monday night is one that stands out to me. Villa always give Arsenal a proper game at Villa Park.

It will be interesting to see whether Ezri Konsa is involved, but even more so to see how Villa respond after their heavy defeat to Brighton & Hove Albion last weekend.

We know Villa are short — they have lost four key players in Lucas Digne, Morgan Rogers, Youri Tielemans and Konsa. It looks as though they will lose Watkins as well, so they need to strengthen. But Villa supporters will rightly trust Unai Emery.

It is not an easy start for them, and they are up against everybody’s tip to win the Premier League, but I think they will make it difficult for Arsenal.
