Manchester United have officially announced that young prospect James Scanlon has completed a transfer to Premier League rivals Arsenal.

The 19-year-old attacking midfielder had been part of the Manchester United academy since 2021, having previously also spent time with Derby County.

He will now take the next step in his development at Arsenal, with the Red Devils confirming the move on their official website today.

The transfer comes after a recent report from The Telegraph stated that the Gunners were pushing to sign Scanlon from United during this summer window.

Scanlon is not necessarily expected to move straight into Mikel Arteta’s first-team plans, but he could still be an exciting young player to keep an eye on for the future.

Arsenal have a well-known poor record when it comes to selling players, so this is surely one area the club will be eager to improve.

With a signing such as Scanlon, they may have the chance to generate a significant profit from him in the future, even if he does not go on to make a major impact in the first team.

Arsenal have completed a few similar deals in recent months, including the move for Jaden Dixon, as previously reported by Fabrizio Romano.

Meanwhile, The Athletic have also reported that Arsenal are targeting a move for Axel Donczew, who became Cardiff City’s youngest-ever player last season.

Earlier today as well, Arsenal agreed the signing of Andria Bartishvili, a gifted 17-year-old Georgian player who will join the Emirates Stadium when he turns 18 next year.

Arsenal have also added proven first-team names such as Bruno Guimaraes and Ezri Konsa, but it will be interesting to see what other deals of this type they choose to pursue in the near future.

This is an area in which Arsenal have fallen behind their rivals, with clubs such as Chelsea and Manchester City bringing in huge amounts of money this summer by selling a number of unwanted players.
