Sir Anthony Hopkins has claimed the number one spot on the UK’s official Classical Chart. His debut album, Life is a Dreammarks a surprising new chapter for the Oscar-winning actor.

The Welsh star released the record last week under Decca Classics. It features music he composed himself, drawing on decades of personal memories and lifelong love for classical sound.

The album was performed by the Philharmonic Orchestra and conducted by acclaimed musician Gustavo Dudamel. Hopkins says the compositions reflect his childhood in Wales, his family life, and the composers who shaped his musical taste over the years.

Speaking about the project, Hopkins shared that music was always his first real passion, even before acting. He said he has been composing quietly for most of his life, and some pieces have stayed with him for decades. He added that he still finds himself returning to those melodies again and again.

Decca president Laura Monks also celebrated the achievement. She said working with Hopkins and Dudamel on the album felt like a dream come true for the label’s classical team. She described the record as a true reflection of a lifetime spent pursuing music with genuine passion.

Monks further praised Hopkins, congratulating him on this recognition of his talents as a composer. She called him an important voice in keeping classical music alive for wider audiences today.

Beyond the personal milestone, Hopkins is using the album’s success for a good cause. He has pledged to donate a portion of the proceeds from CD and vinyl sales to the United Nations Development Fund. The donation will go towards supporting people in Venezuela, who recently suffered a series of devastating earthquakes.

The move adds a humanitarian layer to what is already being seen as one of the year’s most unexpected entertainment stories. Fans and critics alike have praised Hopkins for stepping confidently into a completely new creative space this late in his celebrated career, while also using his platform to help those in need overseas.
