Lakhs of devotees have started preparations to celebrate the festival of Janmashtami. The wait for this festival is going to end soon. This year, the festival of Janmashtami will be celebrated on 4th September, when lakhs of people will not only perform bhajan-kirtan, but will also keep fast for the whole day. Also, bhajan-kirtan and puja-aarti will be performed at midnight on 4th September. According to religious belief, along with observing the fast, the devotees should also listen to the story to Janmashtami, due to which the devotees get happiness, peace and prosperity in life.
The festival of Janmashtami will be celebrated on this Friday. Just before that, lakhs of devotees have started buying clothes, garlands and swings for the form of Bal Krishna. In religious texts, special importance has been given to fasting on Janmashtami. That is why people should try to keep fast on the day of Janmashtami.
According to Skanda Purana, there was a king in Mathura in Dwapara era, who had a son Kansa and daughter Devaki. Kansa had usurped his father's throne and became king himself. Kansa got his sister married to King Vasudev of Yaduvansh. When Kansa himself was bidding farewell to his sister, a voice came from the sky, which said, 'Kans, the eighth son of the sister whom you are biding farewell with love, will become the cause of your death.'
Due to fear of death, a situation of war had arisen between Kansa and Yaduvanshi Vasudev, but Vasudev did not want war. So he promised that when the eighth son was born, he would be handed over to Kansa. After this Kansa imprisoned Devaki and Vasudev. Devaki's first 7 sons were killed by Kansa. After this, Shri Krishna was born in the month of Bhado. During that time Yashoda gave birth to a daughter. Lord Vishnu advised Vasudev to leave his eighth son at Yashoda's house. Following this advice, Vasudev left child Krishna at Yashoda's house at midnight and took his daughter with him to jail. When Kansa came to know that Devaki had given birth to a daughter, he tried to kill the girl but failed. After this, when Shri Krishna grew up, he killed Kansa.
keep fastAccording to religious experts, people should keep fast on the day of Janmashtami. Nirjala fast is considered the best. However, those who cannot keep the fast, they should keep a fruit fast.
chanting mantra– On this day all the devotees should chant the mantra of Shri Krishna, due to which the devotees will get the blessings of God.
Wear yellow clothes- This year, on the day of Janmashtami, people should dress Kanha ji in yellow clothes.
donate– All devotees should donate food and money to the needy people.
Do not insult- On this day people should not use abusive words or insult others.
abstinence from tamasic food– Those who have to keep fast, they should avoid eating Tamasic food the night before.
