The recall was posted by the US Food and Drug Administration on Monday after the company explained one batch of tablets could be ‘superpotent’.

Vitruvias Therapeutics, producers of the drug, said in the statement that testing showed that a single lot of its Thyroid Tablets, USP 30 mg had the potential to be superpotent.

The recalled products were distributed between January 31, 2025 and September 30, 2025 and have an expiration date of 30 September 2026.

The company explained that the tablets can lead to hyperthyroidism.

Symptoms of hyperthyroidism include weight loss, muscle weakness and chest pain.

Woman, the elderly, children and pregnant women have a higher risk of the condition.

Vitruvias added that there have been no reports of adverse effects from the tablets.

Patients who are currently taking the specific batch of tablets have been urged to not stop taking them without contacting their healthcare provider for guidance or a replacement prescription, according to Vitruvias.

The company is reaching out to wholesalers to ensure that they stop distributing the tablets. They are being arranged to be destroyed.
