Located some 1,100 meters above sea level, it offers visitors sweeping views of Lake Biwa, Japan’s largest lake, and its surrounding mountains.

The bridge opened for a pre-opening period on Aug. 22, with its grand opening scheduled for Sept. 14, according to News on Japan.

Skybridge connects different mountains within the Biwako Valley resort, and visitors can cross at their own pace, though the high altitude can mean changes in weather.

News on Japan reported that one visitor on the pre-opening day said the foggy weather made the scenery beautiful in a mystical way. Others said the height of the bridge was exciting and that they were a little scared of dropping their smartphones.

Biwako Valley is a mountain resort located 40 kilometers from Kyoto and overlooking the western shores of Lake Biwa.

According to the resort’s website, access to the Skybridge is included in the general facility usage ticket.

Tickets cost ¥5,000 (US$34) for adults and ¥2,000 (US$17) for elementary school students.

The destination has been welcoming visitors since 1965 as both a winter ski destination and an outdoor activity park during other seasons.
