Manchester United have confirmed that defender Louis Jackson has left the club on a permanent transfer to St Mirren.

Jackson progressed through the ranks at United and was part of the side that famously lifted the FA Youth Cup in 2022 in front of a full Old Trafford.

The young defender was included in matchday squads for games against Sheffield United, Burnley and Crystal Palace. He was also named on the bench for United’s FA Cup semi-final victory over Coventry City in 2024.

During his time at Old Trafford, Jackson also spent a period out on loan with Solihull Moors.

United said in a statement, “Everybody at United would like to wish Louis the very best of luck for his future career.”

Speaking after completing the move, Jackson told St Mirren’s in-house media, “I’m delighted to get it done.”

“After I spoke to the manager, he told me about his philosophy and the direction that the club’s going now in terms of trying to develop young players and giving us the opportunities, which I’ve seen him do since the start of the season. Hopefully I can be next.”

“As soon as I heard that St Mirren were interested, I spoke to Jacob [Devaney] and he just said positive stuff.”

Jackson added, “He said it would be a top move for me, and he enjoyed his time, and he said he really developed from it. So yeah, just gave me words of confidence really.”

“I’m buzzing to get going. Can’t wait to see all the fans at the weekend and yeah, hopefully we can get a good run going.”

He made it clear that he felt the timing was right to leave United on a permanent basis and begin the next stage of his development.

Jackson has signed a two-year contract, with the club holding an option to extend it by a further 12 months.
