Gurgaon is often associated with waterlogging, poor air quality, traffic jams and the rush around Cyber Hub. However, a social media post by a resident who has lived in the city for 11 years has highlighted another side of Gurgaon — its wide range of outdoor and sporting activities.
The resident argued that the city’s biggest advantage is the sheer number of options available within a relatively short drive, ranging from horse riding and shooting to golf, climbing, athletics, karting and off-road driving.
Among the less expected activities are horse riding and shooting. The post mentioned Janak Equestrian in Sector 67, where introductory horse riding lessons reportedly start at around ₹549.
For shooting enthusiasts, Prime 10X in Sector 94 was highlighted, with a first lesson listed at ₹999. The session reportedly includes an air pistol or air rifle, pellets and coaching and is open to people above 10 years of age.
For more conventional sports, Tau Devi Lal Stadium in Sector 38 has a 400-metre synthetic athletics track with 10 lanes. The complex also has a cricket ground used for Haryana-level cricket.
Several cricket and football grounds in and around Gurgaon can also reportedly be booked by groups, making them suitable for games with friends and colleagues.
The post also highlighted pay-and-play golf options. Karma Lakelands has an 18-hole course and reportedly permits weekday walk-ins at around ₹3,200, while a driving range in Sector 59 offers practice for a few hundred rupees.
For beginners, these options can provide a way to experience golf without committing to a club membership.
Dhauj, around 50 minutes from Gurgaon, was described as a destination for natural rock climbing, with more than 270 traditional routes reportedly available. Indoor climbing facilities are also available around MG Road.
Closer to the city, the 392-acre Aravalli Biodiversity Park offers space for walking, running and birdwatching. The restored mining site has a 3.5-km jogging track and 185 recorded bird species, according to the post.
For adventure seekers, Gurgaon also has karting options starting at around ₹600 and a 4×4 off-road track at Bandhwari with 25 obstacles.
The resident acknowledged the city’s familiar problems but argued that they can overshadow its recreational opportunities. From athletics tracks and golf courses to biodiversity parks, climbing sites and off-road trails, Gurgaon offers considerable variety within the wider NCR landscape.
While it is difficult to establish whether Gurgaon has more outdoor activities than any other Indian city, the list highlights a side of the city that often receives less attention — one where sport, nature and adventure are accessible without always requiring an expensive club membership.
