There is news of relief for women traveling by DTC buses in Delhi. Delhi Government has once again increased the facility of free bus travel available to women through paper-based Pink Ticket. Now women will be able to travel free in DTC buses through pink tickets till 17th September like before. The government has taken this decision in view of the upcoming festivals. Its objective is to save women from any kind of trouble in availing the facility of free bus travel. With the continuation of the pink ticket system, women will be able to travel free by getting a ticket while traveling in the bus like before.
Decision taken in view of festivals
Transport Minister Dr. Pankaj Kumar Singh said that this expansion has been done at a time when many important festivals including Janmashtami, Teej and Ganesh Chaturthi are being organized in Delhi. The government says that it has been decided to continue the pink ticket facility for a few more days so that women passengers do not face any problem in availing the benefit of free bus travel during festivals. After September 17, the pink 'Saheli' smart card system will be fully implemented to facilitate free bus travel. After this, women will have to use smart card system instead of paper based pink ticket for free travel.
'Seva Pakhwada' starts from 17th September
The special thing is that September 17 is also the birthday of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. 'Seva Pakhwada' will be celebrated from this day till October 2. According to the government, this extension of pink ticket facility reflects the spirit of service and the government's commitment towards the convenience of women passengers. The government is launching Pink Saheli Smart Card to link women's free bus travel with the digital system. However, to ensure that women do not face any problems during the transition to the new system, the paper-based pink ticket facility is being continuously extended. Now this facility will be available till 17th September.
Till now 19 lakh women have registered
Transport Minister Dr. Pankaj Kumar Singh said that the women of Delhi have enthusiastically participated in making Pink Saheli Smart Cards. Till now about 19 lakh women have registered for Pink Card. He informed that the process of registration and card issuance for Pink Saheli Smart Card will continue even after September 17. All eligible women of Delhi will be able to get their smart cards made from designated places at bus depots and bus terminal centres. According to the government, eligible women who have not yet registered for Pink Saheli Smart Card need not worry. They will be able to get Pink Saheli Smart Card by registering even after 17th September. However, the smart card based system to facilitate free travel will be fully implemented after September 17.
Emphasis on modern and technology based transportation
The Transport Minister said that the Delhi government under the leadership of Chief Minister Rekha Gupta is continuously working to make public transport more accessible, convenient, modern and technology based. He appealed to the eligible women passengers to register for Pink Saheli Smart Card as soon as possible. He said that the aim of the government is to provide modern, convenient and accessible public transport with better facilities to women.
